Ben Hennessy got me a great graphic novel a good bit back. It was Scott Snyder and Jock’s ‘Wytches’ vol.1, a horror story based on Scott’s childhood imagination of witch hunting in forests and ideas of child stealing satanists.
It is a fantastic book that manages to shoot fear into you as the story unfolds. In my opinion not many horror comics can achieve this level of creepy intensity. ‘Wytches’ is craftily written, the visuals have a beautiful sense of atmosphere that adapts as the novel develops and the reveals of the story are well paced as you leaf through the pages. The small town folklore is eerie and the creatures at play are vicious.
I recommend giving this book a go if you’re in the mood for a ‘not so safe’ horror comic.
